A moving picture: videos from EDGEmonton

Here are the videos I took in EDGEmonton, with a little story behind each of them.  They are by no means U2gigs caliber as I don’t have as steady a hand and quite frankly I just can’t spend my entire time filming, but I hope you’ll enjoy this little snippet of my time in Red Zone 1 – Edge’s Red Zone.

I always get excited when The Explorer comes out.  Far too excited to film an entire song, but I Will Follow‘s riff must be captured at least once for all time…

Beautiful Day - see Bono, right in front of you.  Amusingly enough… the lines

Touch me, take me to that other place
Reach me, I know I’m not a hopeless case

What you don’t have you don’t need it now
What you don’t know you can feel it somehow
What you don’t have you don’t need it now
You don’t need it now, you don’t need it now

seem to bring some kind of magic to me, as Edge/Adam played right in front of me at that infamous Toronto 1 show during this piece of the song, and now I was lucky enough to have Bono serenade us as well during the same part.  After Toronto 1 whenever I’ve heard this part I think of Edge/Adam right there in front of me, and now I’ve got two special moments during the same bit – what are the chances?  Fate rides again… only love…

Back to Toronto 1

Most of the credit for the next video goes to my husband, who was gracious enough to (mostly) follow the directive of “film Edge… just Edge…” as this has always been a highlight of 360 for me, Edge on the bridge playing the solo for Until The End Of The World.  This is where we debate over whether he saw my flag or not as he took the bridge – I think he didn’t have time to read it but I have a few more tries up my sleeve before the end of the tour.  Keep with this video, it gets a little crazy at the beginning as I hand the camera to my husband to continue filming, but you will be rewarded with excellent HD Edge if you stick around.

One of my favourite parts of the show, Bono’s band introductions.  Unfortunately I missed Larry’s, but he introduced them as 80′s Edmonton Oilers players, and as soon as I realized where he was going, I just knew that The Edge would be #99

This simply needs no introduction.  All I Want Is You is the 360 song that is currently sending me into orbit. This solo has always been beyond beautiful to me.

I don’t know what it is about the laws of attraction for friendship, but wherever I go and whoever I meet in these U2 circles, most of my best friends always turn out to be Bonogirls.  Edge and Bono – friends forever. I will be joining my quartet of “Midwest Bonogirls” in East Lansing for their first 360 show this leg, and I filmed this video in their absence in Edmonton, as they were all in my hearts that night.  Miss Sarajevo – a closeup Bono extravaganza – including that beautiful note, which melted 66,835 hearts in unison.

What time is in the world?  It’s time for Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me.  I may miss Ultra Violet, but I’ve been really enjoying Edge’s wah wah punching a hole right through the night as well.

With Or Without You – as I filmed this I was 14 again, running home from school to see those precious beautiful seconds of the quiet genius in the hat and suspenders, playing that hauntingly beautiful guitar on that video.  Never imagined I’d feel so close to him 24 years later.  There is a moment at about 1:10 that he looks right into the camera that made me jump – filming across the pit he could never know, but it meant everything to me.

Moment Of Surrender – a beautiful goodbye.
